“A mountain in which God is well pleased to dwell: for there the Lord shall dwell unto the end” (Ps. 67, 16).

Lešje monastery, with the monasterial church of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God is situated above the village of the same name, 10 kilometers south-east of Paraćin and about 2 kilometers south of the road Paraćin-Zaječar, on the north-east side of the Baba hill (656m).

The monastery is situated on the plateau which steeply slopes westwards, i.e. towards the village, while eastward it gradually turns into a plain above which is the summit of the mount Baba. Above the monastery lies a forest striped by massive rocks, which resemble the trail of a meteor shower.

The main entrance into the abbey is situated on the south-east side. The monastery complex is enclosed and it includes the church, “Tower”- the belfry, charnel house with the memorial emblem in the shape of “Golgotha”, along with the old house and cloister. The balcony in front of the western entrance of the church overlooks a beautiful large portion of the Pomoravlje and Šumadija and the hillsides of the mountain wreath of Kučaj.

In the east side of the monastery church and cloister, in their vicinity, there is a well with the stone tap and cascading ponds constructed as small artificial lakes. The well consists of two springs emerging from the ground at a very close distance one from the other. The well is surrounded by well-kept garden. Local people drink this water as they believe that it has healing powers. During the periods of good weather, the christening ceremonies are performed by immersing the believers into the pond. There is also a plan to adapt and put into operation the current baptistry at the well, so that adults may be christened by immersion into water even during the spells of bad weather.
